Please vote (and keep in mind not which colour you like best personally, but which one goes better with the outfit):

I sort of like the new Facebook timeline. This statement will probably get me lynched, but there it is. I played around with it for more than an hour last night, getting it sorted before it went live (by my choice). It goes live for everyone on the 26th, so you might want to have a browse around it now, and delete what you don't want the public to see [alternatively, go into you new privacy settings and put 'friends' for everything].

It seems that Matt Smith is going to be The Star in the Reasonably Priced Car next Top Gear. I am insanely happy, because the Chris and David episodes are hilarious, though Billy Piper's is by far the best. And now I'm wondering when Karen might do it. And hoping that she will!

In other news, I look awesome today! Lovely and match-y match-y with my new clothes swap dress and already owned accessories! Just need to get the right colour tank top and I can wear the other tunic dress too!

I am being far too entertained by the happenings in the department lately. It must say something (not good) about me that I need to live vicariously through the lives of other people. But it is a daily comfort to know that my life isn't worse than (or better than) anyone else's, for the most part. We're all equal in this!

Lastly: grey, paycheques and heat are my road to happiness words today. I'm getting good at shortening what I'm grateful for down to such small things! But it's the little things that count.

I didn't post yesterday! But it was such a great 'road to happiness' day, that I feel it should count for two days worth!

Yesterday was a really easy £80. Well, 'easy' in that I had to sit through 7 hours of talks on a subject I know nothing about and come up with interesting and informative 140 character responses to post to the world [Read that as: I was hired as official tweeter]. But it was and interesting day, and confirms to me that the art world is just as problematic in museum practice as the archaeology based world. And that they can disagree just as loudly with each other. So that was entertaining. Also, I had at least a few of the other phds to keep me company, and Catharina and I had a lovely lunch together.

Last night was my first 'clothes swap'. Amy was a great hostess (and there was too much dessert and very nice tea) and I think I've inherited a fair few of her things. But I got a small pile of wonderful summer dresses and fancy tunic tops and a few other useful casual pieces too! I feel like I won't have to go shopping for things for a while.

So, I am gateful for:

Twitter
My lovely 'new' clothes
Tea and Cakes

Also, I have discovered we have a knitting circle, and may be joining that after I get my stuff from Canada. I haven't knitted in ages, and probably can't do anything more than a scarf right now, but it should still be fun! People may be getting certain presents for Christmas this year....

Now I have an essay plan to work through, copious tea to consume, a long walk and exercise needed and fic to write (this last being hopeful more than determined). And hey, I got woken at 7:45 on a Saturday and I don't care!

Well, it's nearly mid-February and so far my resolution keeping is going rather well (except for 'stop drinking' because that was always going to be a joke. However, I haven't overindulged, so there's that).

Today I learned three important things.

1. I learned that you can buy 14 things from Primark for £38.
2. I learned you say 'no' to a teacher.
3. I learned that a few simple words of kindness in the morning can brighten my entire day (and a piece of chocolate). Thank you sales lady at Thornton's!

I also learned the 5 ways to happiness:

1. Write down 3 things you are grateful for each day.
2. Keep a journal of positive experiences.
3. Exercise.
4. Meditate.
5. Random Acts of Kindness.

So far today, I've kept the last 4, so here are 3 things I am grateful for:

1. I am grateful that I live in England.
2. I am grateful that I have the money to buy clothing, even at Primark.
3. I am grateful for the Thornton's lady and a chocolate smiley face.

I feel happier already.

I ran into the Head of Department today, back from conference. I am SO SCREWED. I am going to go to bed tonight and have nightmares about failing my PhD and all the people who are going to be horribly disappointed in me. And that's not even COUNTING my family members.

Great to have u back Amy RT @akhetherington Week 1 of the adventure that is a PhD is going well, I think. Suppose time will tell!

There are downsides to funding, apparently.

In much better news, I have a complete (matching!) bedroom set now and it's lovely. I have never been a purple person, but since the carpet and chair provided are purple, there didn't seem to be a choice. But I found a great duvet that's very modern with only a little purple on it and matchy matchy everything else. Even a tea mug! And stupidly cheap.

I also might have shopped at Primark yesterday, which I swore I would never do. How low we fall. Though bras for £2.90 is seriously impossible to pass up. They're comfy too!

Construction. Construction. Construction. Construction. Construction.

Is the proud owner of a white and tan leather Coach purse just in time for the Spring season! I nearly got the blue until I remembered that it would clash horribly with my colours this coming season, not to mention my spring jackets. The white/tan goes quite well with last years lilacs and olives too, which I can't get rid of yet, because they look amazing with my colouring. This year is all navy, tan and forest greens and the light summer bag will be wonderful!

The aunt got one too, but it's a chocolate and therefore a winter bag, so they are unlikely to ever be seen together, except in Florida. ;) Not that the aunt understands what Coach is.

Today I was introduced to The Best Grocery Store in the world and it's a good thing we don't have it in Canada. I'd spend my paycheque there every week just buying amazing food to cook. Most of which we enjoyed for our picnic lunch today on the patio in the sun.

Back to reality tomorrow, at least for a month. It's really unfortunate I can't justify taking the time off for the Caymans in April. The weather this week has precluded diving in open ocean and I'm missing the chance to get wet! Haven't been near the ocean, though it's about 800ft from where I'm sitting.

Is sadly contemplating spending her horribly small quantity of hard earned money on a 'new' vintage dress. They're so pretty and I wants one! I am also entirely too lazy to make one myself. Fabric is getting so expensive too. It's almost cheaper to buy a pre-made one in my size.

I want to have a real job.

I've adopted a Coach leather jacket! Why in heavens do people get rid of these types of things?! But seriously, if someone else doesn't want it, I'm happy to give it lots and lots of love and attention, just as if I'd paid for it myself. (Well, almost as much as if I'd paid for it myself.)

My favourite part is that it has a belt at the back with a buckle just like Nine's! And lots of pockets, including one inside for that replica sonic screwdriver.

You know, I was almost out of my Doctor Who phase Steven Moffat...::shakes fist::

Also:

::headdesk:: That's just very, very sad, both pathetically and emotionally.
