So, last night I slept under:

-two fleece blankets, a thick cotton sheet, a winter duvet (with cover)

wearing:

-wool socks
-fleece PJs
-a wool shawl around my shoulders

And.....:

I was still frakking freezing.

Options:

-move house (too late this winter)
-buy space heater (can't until landlord leaves for India and won't notice I *have* a space heater)
-think myself warm (I"ve tried)
-ask for the heat to be turned up (can't, too expensive)

So = screwed.

Oh, whole house. This is England. And it was built in the 1910s, so virtually no insullation. There are bloody vents to the outside in the walls! Which I have covered. Also, big windows (covered by that plastic stuff I bought), and three floors (I'm on the 1st, so hot air rises...higher than I am). Downstairs is even colder. But there's no insullation between the floors either, so the heat just evaporates.

The biggest kicker? They haven't invented central heating over here, so the rads heat the air within five feet, but fail to heat the other 10 feet of my room, which is where the bed is. I may like the Brits, but wow do they still live in the dark ages in some ways.

Have resorted to my Everest base-layer stuff I have had since skiing days. Glad I brought it with me!

Hot water bottles, my friend. I had 3 and arranged them at my hands, feet, and butt.

Maybe I should buy another one...I have one for my core area, but it doesn't help the feet!
