So, last night I slept under:

-two fleece blankets, a thick cotton sheet, a winter duvet (with cover)

wearing:

-wool socks
-fleece PJs
-a wool shawl around my shoulders

And.....:

I was still frakking freezing.

Options:

-move house (too late this winter)
-buy space heater (can't until landlord leaves for India and won't notice I *have* a space heater)
-think myself warm (I"ve tried)
-ask for the heat to be turned up (can't, too expensive)

So = screwed.

Oh dear. I hope you can slip that space heater into your bedroom very soon.

UGH, the space heater is about all that's keeping me ALIVE at this point. Is it just your room that's super cold, or is it the whole house?

I vote for the space heater, and then move.

By mid-January I hope!

Option three is: hope it gets warmer in England. Which is also not going to happen, but, I guess one never knows! Weather does strange things.

Oh, whole house. This is England. And it was built in the 1910s, so virtually no insullation. There are bloody vents to the outside in the walls! Which I have covered. Also, big windows (covered by that plastic stuff I bought), and three floors (I'm on the 1st, so hot air rises...higher than I am). Downstairs is even colder. But there's no insullation between the floors either, so the heat just evaporates.

The biggest kicker? They haven't invented central heating over here, so the rads heat the air within five feet, but fail to heat the other 10 feet of my room, which is where the bed is. I may like the Brits, but wow do they still live in the dark ages in some ways.

Have resorted to my Everest base-layer stuff I have had since skiing days. Glad I brought it with me!

Hot water bottles, my friend. I had 3 and arranged them at my hands, feet, and butt.

Hat. Make sure you wear a hat to bed. And cocoon yourself in at least one of the fleece blankets, if you're not already. Do the Brits make electric blankets? If they do, then your heater will be in the bed with you. (But I maybe wouldn't mix electric blankets with [livejournal.com profile] zaftig46's hot water bottle recommendation.)

Oh, hat, fo' shizzle! And gloves, if necessary. Be not ashamed - desperate times call for desperate measures. And I lived in my Snuggie during daylight hours, as well, and the only thing it is missing is a hood. If they come up with a hooded Snuggie, I am in line for that. (Mind you, I know they do adult onesies at Primark... I once witnessed an amazing conversation between two girls: "should I get the pink one or the cow print one?" "That depends: do you want to be a cow or a pig?" I sadly missed what the girl decided on...)

Ouch! I hope the LandLord leaves soon. Electric blanket, maybe?

No, that could end badly. Last night was better, with the base layer on underneath my jammies and my hot water bottle all warm and toasty. So, hopefully that will be my good winter combo!

Maybe I should buy another one...I have one for my core area, but it doesn't help the feet!

LOL You aren't like me then. I often sit at my computer wrapped up in an electric blanket or put one on my sofa when I'm sitting and reading. The only thing I've found that it doesn't work well with is cooking, but the heat from the oven usually helps there. : )

It's always a good reason to have the oven on! Oh, I do sit at the computer with a blanket on my lap. But the heat is off during the day so it's sort of horrible between 10am and 5pm. Guess I should go to the hot as hell office more often.
