The weirdness my life has become
Mar. 23rd, 2005 07:29 pmSo, my mother calls last night from Cuba. The following is a paraphraze of the conversation that insued.
Mother: "Hi Amy. Look we're about to go into dinner, but can you do me a favour?"
Me: (starts to frown in suspicion) "Alright."
Mo: "Got a pen and paper? You should write this down."
Me: (now very suspicious) "Yeah."
Mo: "Ready? Could you e-mail Rob (my dive instructor) and tell him Todd (Rob's dad, my aunt's new boyfriend, and also incidentily on the trip to Cuba with her) is trying to organize a dive trip down her at the end of April. The thursday, the 22nd or whatever it is. Minimum 10 people. For a week."
Me: "O...k."
Mo: "Apparently the diving is great down here. Edie and Todd have been out a number of times. And there's snorkeling too. Anyways, that's the last week the hotel is open, so it should be quiet."
Me: "Great." (I know she has a point, she's just going to take forever to make it)
Mo: "When do you finish exams?"
Me: "The 20th."
Mo: "So, you'd be home then?"
Me: "Yes." (she's getting there...)
Mo: "Do you want to go?"
Me: (And she MADE IT!) "Uh...sure."
Mo: "Good. Edie doesn't know if she can go or not, but there's this 16-year-old girl who's doing her Master Diver that wanted to go south. Maybe you can room with her."
Me: (between cursing and squeeing) "Alright."
Mo: "Does that sound good?"
Me: (What am I supposed to say? No?) "Yeah."
Mo: "Okay. Good. Have to go now. See you on Thursday. Bye."
Me: "By....e." (hangs up phone) "Well, that was weird. Huh." (pauses) "Wait. Wha?" (thinks for a minute, while staring absently at the phone) "Okay, so dive trip with potentially my aunt, her boyfriend and her boyfriend's son. Okay, so not cool anymore."
WARNING: Spoiled brat moment.
So, I'm officially not sure about this. I mean, I had the perfect hotel on the south shore of Cuba, as well as the whole trip package already picked out. I just wanted to finalize it this weekend. And then she springs this on me. 7 days of diving is not a relaxing vacation...it's a painful disaster for me. And wait...the boyfriend now? How awkward. Especially if aunt does not come.
Chance I can get out of this? 0%
Percentage I'm acting like a spoiled brat? 95%
Chance my life is going to go back to normal any time soon: 0%
Spending another week with Rob, Bruce, and gang? Priceless.
Am offically not sure what to think.
