Sid may have an incling on this, Krys has certainly heard it, but I'm going write it anyways.
As of my latin quiz yesterday, and the absolute hell that is class every Monday and Wednesday, I've come to one of those wonderful crossroads (or roadblocks) in my life.
It will be a miracle if I pass Latin this sem. Now, as it is a requirement for my major, I will have to take it again. Becuase I have to take 3rd and 4th year latin as well. (And you must pass second to do that)
However, if you do a combined classics major with something else, there is no requirement for senior latin or greek courses.
This seems a simple enough thing to do; change my major to a combined.
It's not.
First off, I already have too many first year courses for a combined major, and second I will have too many courses within the Classics department by the end of my 4th year if I change.
Unless I drop something this year.
Latin: good possibility, as I'll fail it anyways, but does not help with the too many first year credits as it's a second year
Greek: don't need it, would solve both problems, but I want to take it. Cathy however, tells me it's hell
German: don't need it, helps with too many first year courses, but not with the too many in the CL department, and I like taking it
So, I am at something of a dilema. Also, I've not said anything to my parents about this. I don't know if I can do a Masters Classics at Oxford if I only have first year latin and greek, and I don't know whether it would screw my life over for all enternity.
However, if I do make a change, it will be to combine with a Religion and Culture major, which would broaden my horizons, teach my something I'm interested in (I was going to minor in it anyways), and keep me out of senior language courses as well. I can still go to Greece, or do an exchange. And there are only 2 required courses in a R&C major that are boring and I don't want to take. Not bad....
Any thoughts? Questions? Advice? Please?
