Mar. 26th, 2010 10:50 amYou know what really bugs me? I applied to a bunch of jobs in Muskoka (non museums) and I've heard back from a few asking me if I'd be available on such-and-such a date to interview.
My resume CLEARLY states I live in Burlington and I CLEARLY stated in the cover letter that I would be moving to Muskoka on the Victoria Day weekend and NOT BEFORE. So they are asking me to come up for an interview KNOWING IT WILL take me 6 hours to drive round trip and nowhere to stay.
I have already email two back and asked for a phone interview, citing the fact that I am very busy for the next week at the museum and that after that I am going to Washington for two weeks. One has not deigned to email me back AT ALL and the other I will give more time, because they are a small business and I don't think they check their email very often.
BUT STILL.
I want to win the lotto.

Date: 2010-03-26 09:07 pm (UTC)I know you're busy, but keep in mind that you're busy doing something you don't want to do. And the Museum isn't even paying you for it. You can try to schedule them on the same day, you can get up at 4AM and get home after 10 at night. But you go, you smile, you shake hands and you do the freaking interview.
*steps off soapbox*
Isn't there anyone you could stay with? Like...your neighbours who live up there?

Date: 2010-03-27 12:50 pm (UTC)The problem is that none of these are jobs I want either. They aren't cultural, they're retail (which I hate and already have a job). And again, it's just for part time, minimum wage. And honestly, I don't have the money to put gas in the car, despite the fact I just got paid. It was all spent before the pay check came in on frakking food and gas (and $10 for the movie, really, why do they need to charge that much?). You have to understand that I only work 8 hours a week paid because Bowring can't give me anymore.
I'm not spending $25 dollars on the chance of maybe getting a job that's exactly the same as the one I currently have. If it was for a museum, I'd drive.
But thanks for the pep talk.
