Well, it was bound to happen. In fact I was rather shocked when it didn't happen last season and they got renewed. The show has been going downhill since late Season 3, and let's fact it people. Over the last 4 episodes of Season 3 they effectively lost their entire fanbase, even if many were curious enough to keep watching. I said it would kill them. :D
I am rather relieved, all told. The show hasn't done it for me for well over a season now, and basically I watch it because I feel, after 10 years of loyalty to SG-1, that I owe it something. Now I no longer have to feel obligated. And they'll be a movie, which SG-1 has already proven is the better way to end a show.
And, really, it's not like we have to feel sorry for anyone. It's Vancouver. The crew will all find jobs, the majority of the actors already have other jobs, and I am secure in knowing that as Amanda Tapping has the time to focus on Sanctuary finally, now David Hewlett can finally get around to writing Starcrossed and that second movie he's been promising. And, you know, raising his son.
Five seasons is a reasonably good run (it's what Firefly deserved) and I'm only going to be sorry to see it go because it's been a part of my life since I was fourteen. So ends an era.
About time.
