Great news! I have a (volunteer) job as one of the official (in fact the first) postgraduate bloggers on the Leicester website! I get my own WordPress blog to post about studies and academic life for the whole world to see.

Shit.

Anyways, this is awesome news, as I am also soon to take over the official duties as the moderator of the Attic blog for the department AND Alex and I will be running the Studio meetings starting in March. Yikes! I was going to volunteer as student rep too, but...maybe not. I'm still going to apply for Ambassador again, and then get a part time job this summer.

I worked on my finances last night and, baring disasters or things I can't currently think of that might go wrong ::knocks on wood::, I am hopeful that I can finish second year only $30,000 in debt. Which would be AWESOME. That's actually doable. Of course, the last year may double that, depending on things. But even $60k is a lot better than the $100k maximum. Much calmer now. For now, at least!

Just had a very yummy goats cheese and cutney panini for lunch. This is not important, except that it was yummy!
windemere: (purple xmas)
In honour of getting my Very First UK Paycheque yesterday, I bought myself a little present in town today. Since it's the only xmas present (in the physical, materialistic sense) that I'm getting this year, I felt it deserved. It only cost £11 too.

I'm going to start scrapbooking! It seems like a good idea to record the next 3 years in some physical sense (ignoring the three virtual blogs, of course). I wanted something purple (current obsession), but ended up with a black and white one covered in Union flags. It seemed fitting! Now, to begin filling it...a few months late. Don't tell!

Also popped into the library to pick up a few classics. I'm starting with Pride & Prejudice and Frankenstein. Will go from there, but that will keep me busy for the holidays. Also picked up a fiction book that had a quote on the front saying it was loads better than Dan Brown, so I figure I'll give it a go. Something to do with angels? I'm not sure. The synopsis isn't very clear. But 'better than Dan Brown' is worth a look, I guess. [The back had a quote saying it could give Stephenie Meyer a run for her money too, but I figure that one's a given.]

My back is killing me this week. DAMN BED! Just aches like the devil right across my shoulder blades and sitting at a desk in a hard chair is not helping. Finally piled all my blankets on the bed last night to sleep on top of, but so far it hasn't helped. May have to do something about that before week's end. Mattress toppers aren't cheap here. :(

Sherlock Holmes tomorrow! And I will work up the courage to watch The Hobbit trailer. I promise.

I think I'm getting better at answering those emails I'd really rather ignore. I figure this is good practice.

In completely unrelated news: Seriously, my family people. I should stop being surprised. It's just, they keep catching me off guard. And being nice. It's...weird and stuff. I have no idea how to take it!

And on a really positive note: the boathouse will not be falling down this winter. The boat, however, may still be a write-off. Oh well. It's just, there's no insurance claim if it stops working on its own, rather than because the roof collapsed on it.

And even farther off topic: I was $15,000 richer today...for about 4 hours. Ah money, how I will miss you.
