Since it wasn't working last night...
Mar. 1st, 2004 11:32 amThough I doubt I can follow Kate's entry with anything resembling intelligent comments, I shall at least try. Because I can't let this momentus occasion pass with nothing to mark it by.
I'm incredibly grateful. Which sounds weird of course, because I'm not the one that won last night, and I had nothing to do with any of it. But I am grateful. For everything. To everyone. Including the entire country of New Zealand. :D
If you go to www.livejournal.com/~grav_ity there's a list of all the great quotes from last night. Most of them are a derivation of "thank you NZ", but hilarious nonetheless.
I must say, the intro Billy did was his best yet! I laughed hysterically, which was good, because it helped me to release some of the nervous energy that had plagued me for the last, oh, 2 years or so. The songs were perfect (and My Favourite Things was priceless). The jokes were thankfully in good fun (there's been other years...) and the audience got them all, what's more.
I prayed before each award was announced, to whatever god(s) seemed to be listening. Though, the payoff had more to do with an amazing movie and the Academy finally getting it. They can never use the excuse anymore: "it's a fantasy film, it can't win". I'm grateful for that too.
I cried when they won for best pic, though it's completely Sean Astin's fault I did. They all worked so amazingly hard on these films, and I'm thankful it's been acknowledged and honoured.
Amy, no longer disenchanted with the Oscars
