After all, Martin Freeman said two weeks ago there would be another series, as if we needed confirmation. However, there are many ways to get to where it was always going to go, and this particular path was awesome!

I didn’t expect the suicide. Moriarty’s, that is, not ‘Sherlock’s’. I didn’t take Moriarty for the type, though in many ways it makes sense. He was willing to do anything to win, and that was the only way he knew he could. Of course, he only thought he’d won. Fraud or no, the one that walks away gets the ultimate prize.

I am just going to cry for the ENTIRE two Hobbit films. For no other reason that that it’s Martin playing Bilbo. Seriously, who knew back in the days of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy that he was that good an actor?

You know it’s a good show when, despite knowing the ending, you have a moment of doubt. I know when John was at the grave site, I was laughing. Not laughing in humour, but laughing at the brilliance and in heartfelt sympathy for the months of agony that John Watson is going to go through.

I can’t help but compare this episode to the recent Sherlock Holmes movie. How could you not? Except that there isn’t really a comparison. It’s the same story, but it’s not at the same time. They might as well be two different stories about different characters, then just the obvious differences of being set in a different time and place. Get the word ‘different’ in that sentence enough, do you think?

But, strangely, the emotional rollercoaster was shockingly similar between the two. Though Watson’s part was exceedingly better handled in this version than the film; John’s grief here isn’t interrupted by a trick from Sherlock showing that he’s still alive. And Cumberbatch is a better actor than Downey Jr. any day, obviously.

It’s a tossup whether survival after fall from waterfall versus fall from building is more believable.
