Well, it was a three hour bus ride to get to Stonehenge, and it started at 7am, but at least they stopped for coffee. The weather yesterday was supposed to be horrid, but it turned out to only be windy and a bit chilly, so gloves and coat were enough to keep warm!

Stonehenge is a bizzare place. You can see it from the road as you approach and it's kinda just...there. And then you have to park and pay and go under the road to get to it. It seemed smaller than I expected, and I think that's because I was enchanted with Stonehenge when I was five and at that time it would have been quite a bit bigger to me. It made the whole thing very surreal, because there's like, 100 other people walking around, and the cars wizzing by, and there's ropes and fencing everywhere, and it rather takes all the mystery out of it. But it's still amazing.

We went to Salisbury for the afternoon, which is rather a quaint little town with lots of rivers and bridges. But xmas shopping has started with a vengence over here and so the whole town centre was a maze of people and cars (no pedestrian areas here!). But the Catheral is one of the most beautiful in southern England, but we couldn't be bothered to pay to get in (they all look the same, yeah?), so we went to the museum instead. It's a typical small town museum, but has the majority of the local stuff on Stonehenge as well as the Pitt Rivers gallery. And lots of pretty dresses in the costume exhibit upstairs. We had a nice long lunch at Wetherspoons by the main river and then went and sat in the nice cozy pub until it was time for the bus to leave. The trip back, strangely, took forever, but at least we got to watch Mamma Mia!
