The Downfall of Television
Mar. 23rd, 2011 12:45 pmI have concluded that North America is incapable of producing an original television show that they didn't steal from the British. First, they remake Being Human because heaven forbid North Americans listen to English accents and now they've stolen Top Gear, one of Britain's best shows and put three completely uninteresting Americans in the hot seat. They even have their own Stig!

Date: 2011-03-23 06:28 pm (UTC)I was upset about Top Gear and about Shameless because I have seen both of those.I saw season one of Shameless ages ago and have never been able to locate any of the other seasons but I'll wait. They'll turn up eventually.
Strangely enough, I watched the only TV show that the UK took from us the other night, "Law and Order". I enjoyed it. I have no idea why they decided to make it but I like seeing the English court system vs. our US one. The wigs are very nice.
The Canadian shows that I've seen are "Slings and Arrows" and "SCTV" (I think that was from Canada.) I love "Slings and Arrows".

Date: 2011-03-23 06:45 pm (UTC)I never managed to get in to any of the Law & Order's, but I did watch the UK one for the cast. It was pretty good, but since I've never seen the American series' I have nothing to compare it to!

Date: 2011-03-23 07:26 pm (UTC)The UK Law and Order is set up exactly like the US one and the creator of the program is involved in the UK version so it's very true to the original save for the differences in UK law and procedures. That makes an interesting contrast though. I think they did a good job with it. Perhaps it helps to have the creator of the program involved in things.
