So, you start into a new fandom. And maybe immediately or maybe after a few months you cave and start reading fanfiction. But it's a new fandom and you don't really know where to start (beyond FF.net). Instead you start randomly searching the internet. After all, you've never read a story in this fandom before, so you don't know what's good and what's not. You find interesting titles or summaries so you read them. Some are good, most are not (like all fandoms).

And then you start to wonder about the stories you'd like to read. You think about the characters you ship and the situations you'd like to see and then you go searching for those specific stories. Much harder to find, of course.

But then, randomly, you stumble across a brilliant one. These things always make me happy (especially when it happens on FF.net). You find an author that's got the voice down for that fandom and it makes you feel all warm inside.

And you know what the fantastic thing is? That sometimes you stumble across the amazing story that you thought of yourself, all written out for you already and it's good and the characters are good. Lovely Christmas present!

Then there's the crossover that you thought no one else would possible figure out, and then did, and it made !

Also, if you're looking for 'ship fic, het_reccers is typically a good place to start. It has an efficient tagging system, if nothing else. ;)
