I lived there 8 years ago! In that city. Hell, in university accomodation! And a year ago today I was living in Rome. And there was an earthquake then too, though much more minor.

I can't imagine those gorgeous buildings destroyed.

Dude, one of the kids I used to babysit (who is now in high school) is heading out for there THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. If, you know, the trip hasn't been cancelled.

If they are headed directly to L'Aquila, I'd say I hope the trip is cancelled. There were two quakes back-to-back, so who knows what aftershocks are coming.
