Well, the 5am wake-up call landed Cass and I in Stratford-upon-Avon at 8:30, which I stupidly thought would be enough time.
There were people camped out, the bastards. So the first block of tickets went before we even got inside. But they do day returns, so if anyone returns a ticket, it comes up for sale again at the box office, but you basically have to sit around and wait to see if any do. So we waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Outside. In the English cold and damp. For four hours. Let no one ever claim I am not a dedicated fangirl! I felt really sorry for having dragged Cass, but the longer would sat there the more she was egging me on and encouraging me. The returns kept coming in for Love's or one at a time for Hamlet, and we were positive we weren't going to get them. So, 12:30 came and went, and I figured even though there was one girl ahead of us, 3 tickets were not going to come in in the next 30 minutes, so I went to the bathroom.
Guess what? That really works! :D Two tickets together came in and Cass jumped on them, to put it mildly. She told me she was shaking, which was still better than I was doing, as I spent the entire morning nauseous. Not fun.
And they were damn good seats for £14 each. Stalls (ground) at the back but up in tiered seating so we were on the eye-line of the actors. Nothing like convincing yourself David Tennant is actually staring at you.
OMG. I mean, having seen Love's I knew David was mesmerizing on screen, but man, does that man do 'crazy' well. But the interaction between Patrick Stewart and David (Claudius and Hamlet, respectively) was just extraordinary to watch. I was rivited for 3.5 hours! What was really cool was that as we were sitting in the backrow beside an aisle, the actors all used the hall behind to get to their entrance placements around the stage. And they'd do quick changes, etc. back there. Cass and I got to see David get tied up! But still best, was at the very end when they all ran off stage and we got up to leave, I passed within 5 feet of David as he was disappearing down the hallway! 5 FEET!
My gods, I've had a good day. Of course, the day is not over (even though it started much too early) because mom's 60th is tonight, and since I refused to fly back to Canada (Hamlet won, so what?) I am attending via Skype. But the party doesn't start till 6pm. Looooooong day for me.
But so worth it.
I think Cass and I both adored the fact that in the first seen Hamlet's hair is all slicked back and smooth and gradually becomes more like the Doctor's with each scene. Pretty normal wildness by the end!
I am so pathetically crushing right now.
But...Patrick Stewart!
