Feb. 9th, 2006 07:27 pmSo, class was interesting this morning, for two reasons.
a) our homework assignment for the weekend (besides reading and studying) is to watch the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics. Now this is work I may actaully do!
b) Schaus sweetly, and with a very charming smile, informed the class that, yes, the readings from all three textbooks would be on the test, and yes the material we cover Tuesday morning will be on the test Tuesday night, and yes, you will have to know how to calculate the first day of the Olympics.
a) was amusing, b) was priceless. The exclamations of shock, dismay, and horror from the kin students was hilarious. One actually had the audacity to ask quite loudly so that everyone could here, how she could be expected to get to the library Tuesday afternoon before the midterm to do the reading that day. Schaus rather vindictively (and with damn good reason) informed her that she could go on the weekend. He then turned to Joy and I (who sit beside each other) and said: "You know what I'm talking about." And smiled sweetly as both Joy and I disolved into laughter. I don't think any of the kin students quite got the joke; they all looked a little confused. But the girls behind me were being quite vocal in how obviously pissed off they were that a prof would do such a thing. Imagine, 50 fill-in-the-blanks and an essay! In a hour! Oh the horror, the horror!
::snickers:: Gods, they have no clue how nice he's being to them. Fill-in-the-blanks? The last time I did that for a classics class was probably 1st year! And he told them the essay question! Damn, stupid, spoiled rotten, idiotic, pussy, kin students. And in first year everyone informed me the kin students had it hard. Right. I'll trade you a kin class for Greek Bronze Age with Schaus.
But it really was hilarious. I've had my entertainment for the...week. Next Tuesday should be even funnier. I'll be interested in seeing how many of them actually show up to class. The only downside of the whole thing: I have to walk to BA twice in one day. I think I may just take my books and study at school, though it's not the best environment. But it's 50 FILL IN THE BLANKS!
ex: What were the four Panhellenic festivals also called? For any idiot in the class who bothered to go to class OR read the text book, the answer is 'Crown Competitions'. That's the level of difficulty we're talking. And the essay? In answer to the question of how long it was supposed to be, Schaus explained: "I expect you to be writing for every minute of the exam. If you leave early, your answer was too short." None of the kin students seemed to understand this. Maybe I should explain to some of them what the final was like for 321?
Joy and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, if only because we know what we're in for, and watching Schaus torture ANYONE is amusing as hell.
::skips off to watch Dancing with the Stars, whistling:: Oh Tuesday is going to be FUN. Which will hopefully make of for the fact that Wednesday will not.
