After CL216 today Dr. Schaus and I had a talk. More on that later. The end of the conversation was as follows.

Schaus: Eda was there? (At the convention in Montreal for Archaeology this passed weekend; a few of the classics students went too) I didn't see her at all.
Me: Well, she was busy, and I'm sure you had many things to do.
Schaus: She was probably in the bars.
Me: Probably. (what? I'm going to disagree with him? How would I know.)
Schaus: I wasn't in the bars. Well, except once.
Me: ...Right.
At this point another teacher interrupted this brilliant discussion, more's the shame.

Now, you have to understand (since only one of you on this list does) that Dr. Schaus, our revered Greek History prof, likes his alcohol. A lot. Not to say he is a drunk, but well, the first thing he always goes for at any school event is the liquor table. And 75% of his stories about his travels in Europe involve alcohol...in usually large quantities. There is the rather memorable story involving beer, a greek guide, and the god Pan, but I'll save that for another time. ;D

Anyways, the conversation was this: (majorly paraphrased)

Schaus: I've got another job offer for you. Didn't Erika talk to you? (Well, no, she didn't) It's volunteer again, mind you. A Ph.D student from the University of Cincinnati is looking for someone to help him put pottery back together again at Stymphalos this summer. For three weeks. Interested?
Me: Sure.
Schaus: His name as Peter and he's really nice.
Me: Great.
Schaus: It'd probably be mid-July to early August. I'll be over there to check the dig the first week of August for a few days.
Me: Sounds great. (at this point I realize I should probably sound just a bit more interested so...) I'd love to find out more about it. That would be really amazing.
Schaus: Great. Well, why don't you think about it, and email me if you have any more questions.
Me: Certainly. I take it this came up at the convention?
Schaus: Yes. I was talking to Peter there and said I might know some interested students. I talked to Erika at the convention.
Me: Did you talk to Eda yet?
Schaus: No, she wasn't there.
Me: Yes she was. She was talking about how great it was yesterday.
Schaus: She was? I didn't see here....

And hense the first part.

So, another job offer. Another chance for me to be disappointed? At least he won't put our names in a hat again; he's leaving that up to Peter this time. And one in THREE chance this time. That's better, right?

Mom wasn't all that enthusiastic though, which is kinda weird, because she was about the Turkey job. I'll caulk it up to the fact that I've have to get there and back on my own this time. Of course, I'm doing that next summer anyways...might as well figure out my way around Greece this summer and get a head start. WOuld make me feel better. Am happy now. If I get it, something to look forward to. And I can still take my job at Lions and earn money. Of course, this would mean I would be working every week the entire summer, except the beginning of May, when I can't work, and the beginning of September, when I have to go back to school. No cottage time. I suppose I could make the sacrafice...for a month in Greece.

:D
