2011 Fic Round-up

Total Word Count: 176,690, which is beyond ridiculous, consider how the year started out. (Technically, I've written another 6k that has yet to be posted and is ongoing into next year, so I'll roll it into the total for 2012).

Total Number of Stories: 16, which is pretty good for me, consider 4 were multi-chaptered!

Fandoms: Sanctuary (which got me through January), and Twilight.

My favourite story this year: East of Albuquerque. I'm insanely proud of it, considering.

My best story of the year: I think Water to the Sea, but clearly fandom doesn't agree. ;)

Story most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Water to the Sea. Seriously, I was SO PROUD of this fic, and hardly anyone read it.

Most fun story: Honestly, The Sanctuary Network. Which needs updating.

Sexiest story: I got nothing for this. I wrote for two fandoms that don't have much on screen canon hanky panky, so that sort of spoiled my fun. Maybe next year.

Hardest story to write: East of Albuquerque. I've never done that much research for a fic and it was exhausting! Also, writing 37,000 of it by hand was just plain hard.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?: HAHAHA; I wasn't even doing nano this year!

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?: I wrote for a fandom that, a year ago, I refused to even acknowledge existed. And I wrote multi-chaptered fics and even a sequel, which I have never before attempted to do.

Do you have any goals for the New Year?: Finish the last two stories in the Cardinal Points saga (I can abuse that word too, you know). Finish the original story that I started and didn't nano.

Well, this didn't go at all how I planned. Human in LOTR? That's not right! But I got Ravenclaw and Vulcan, so it's half a win.

I usually ignore the 'Writer's Block' section on my LJ Homepage, but hey, sometimes they're interesting (though the answers rarely are). Today's is, have you ever met anyone famous?

Well, firstly, what do you define as famous? But if we're going with the general description of well-known (rather than just A-List Hollywood, which I'm sure is some people's definition), then I have! The answers (at least the first few pages of comments I read) are funny, because almost all of them are basically a no.

But hey: John Barrowman, Craig Parker (iffy on celebrity status perhaps), Michael Burgess, Prince Andrew (and I've been within feet of the Queen and Prince Philip), John McDermott; I have been 3 feet from David Tennant, 10 ft from Jude Law and had Sir Patrick Stewart walk right by me (before I realised who it was); and I saw Pope John Paul speak in person in front of St. Peter's when I was 17.

Not too shabby, me thinks! I've also met about a half dozen people who I knew, but I don't consider famous.

As for people I'd like to meet: Steven Moffat, Robert Downey Jr., Johnny Depp (please?), Obama (while he is still President - fat chance) and Dame Judy Dench (and while we're at that, Dame Maggie Smith too please!). And probably a whole wack of others, but those are the ones that come to mind first.

To the first five people who comment to this post, I will gift you with something of my own crafting. ;) It may be an icon, a manip, a drawing, a ficlet, or something completely random. You may love it or you may think it sucks, but regardless, it will be made with love for you from me. ;) Feel free to give me a hint of what you might like (ship, character, actor/actress, fandom, colour, etc.)

The catch? You must pay it forward and post this in your journal so you can gift 5 of your friends with special gifts made by you.

Chances are it ain't going to be a manip, but the rest might be possible.

My gods, but doesn't this describe me perfectly?

Your result is: Office Archaeologist (what the natives call "Deskchair")
You like the subject matter of archaeology, and have thought all about how amazing the find of King Tut was and its contribution to our knowledge of Egyptian pharaohs, but would much rather stay safely at home or in an office with four solid walls and not braise 100 degree weather to go find a tomb on your own. You don't like extreme heat, and have rarely been an outdoor person; instead, you like the indoors where it is cool and comfortable. You also like to read books that deal with archaeological questions, like the mysterious Atlantis, and then rate them based on your own knowledge. Most likely you have studied one of the following ancient languages: Greek or Latin.

No worries though, as they say down under. We will probably see great things from you in the future, especially as you have a nice office to compile all your ideas in...

A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven-ish people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it"

1. I can make my eyeballs shake. This was an interesting, but disgusting habit of a girl I knew in middle school. It used to annoy the hell out of me, until I learned to do it myself.
2. I never remember my dreams. EVER.
3. I used to (once upon a time) be very active in sports of all kinds. Now you couldn't pay me to even play a fun game of football (and that would be English football).
4. I can fake a Scottish accent, and Irish accent and a southern accent, but I cannot, for the life of me, do anything remotely English.
5. If I'm not writing/drawing/painting/speech writing in my head, then I am not happy.
6. I have an amazing ability to make people like me. I have no idea how. But even people I hate are still friends with me, because they don't know I hate them.
7. I have one ultimate plan in life. If it doesn't go exactly the way I want it to, it doesn't matter, because ultimately Plan B, C, and D, all end up at the same place anyways.

Cheers!

Already knew this (I always get in the 130s), which means I am gifted and therefore the same as everyone else in my family. Shocking, that.

I actually have a basic understanding of both Linear B and Greek.

Your Score: Linear B

You scored

You are Linear B. Even those who can follow you think you're all Greek to them. Which, after all, is true - Linear B being the first known text for written Greek. To most people, you're incomprehensible. But what do you care? You're tough, hard, long-enduring and have greater nobility than most. Naturally, you don't admit to borrowing extensively from your brother Linear A.

Your Score: 10 1/4", Yew, Veela

You scored 73 wisdom, 16 bravery, 15 emotional, and 5 martyrdom!

A yew wand signifies a wizard of great wisdom and intellect and is very useful in transfigurations. The veela hair as a wand core means that you are slightly unpredictable but very powerful.

The first time I did it I lied and got Elizabeth. Here's the truthful answer:

You scored as Rodney McKay. Your conterpart is the brilliant but caustic Canadian astrophysicist, Rodney McKay.
You may be egotistical or as Samantha Carter puts it: "arrogant, petty and bad with people" but deep down you really do care about others a great deal. You're a little bit solitary, but only because certain people just annoy you and you can't stand being around them (and I mean, who can blame you).
In the end, even though you can be a pain in the ass you're a good friend.
