Game of Thrones 'Winter is Coming'
Yes, that was sarcasm. But then, Martin repeats the tag line enough himself. It's Ned's favourite line, after all.
You know what I love about these books? They make no pretentions. They don't try to be LOTR or any other epic series. They just are; bloody, messy and oh so entertaining. There's sex and war and all the things that would have happened and did in dark times like those when men lived by the sword and, more often than not, died by it.
The show is that too. I wasn't sure they could pull it off, but they did. It's dark and bloody and doesn't pull a single punch. And so far, it's sticking to the plot line pretty well. Also, big points for snagging lines directly from the book and giving them to the right character ::cough::PeterJackson::cough:: Also, as we all know, I love Sean Bean. So there's that.
What doesn't bother me about this one and that bothered the crap out of me with Legend of the Seeker, is that I know what's coming and I don't care. Seriously. I'm looking forward to it. To loving these characters all over again and then watching them die in the worst ways possible. Watching their lives spiral out of their control. Watching betrayal and war and death consume them all. The game of thrones is a dirty business and Martin doesn't pull a single punch. Either does HBO.
